Being at the top of the food chain is quite nice, don’t you think? There’s no hassle of running for your life; no need to cower among the shadows; no expectation of a gory death from gnashing teeth. Yup! Things are pretty sweet for us homo sapiens. So much so that we forget how vulnerable and ill-equipped we are when it comes to facing the animal kingdom, mano-a-mano. Hollywood, however, does not and so, this week, BFF has dedicated the Top 10 to re-capping those very timely reminders.

Let The Right One In director Tomas Alfredson has taken the helm of the new adaptation of The Brothers Lionheart – frankly, we’re just staggered by the fact that not one but two separate studios have wanted to introduce new generations of kids to Astrid Lindgren’s deeply odd classic. The Wikipedia entry for the first film notes, gravely, that it is “softened a bit [from the book] and does not explicitly show the brothers committing suicide”, which probably tells you all you need to know. In dubious celebration of Alfredson’s odd career choices, we’ve collected ten other children’s books that should never have been committed to celluloid.
Top 10 Films Named After Songs
Pedro Almodóvar’s new film Los Amantes Pasajeros, or I’m So Excited to us English-speaking jerks, is officially out in cinemas everyone! It’s obviously going to be totally weird because it’s by Pedro Almodóvar. Did you guys see that movie, The Skin I Live In? WHAT WAS THAT? Anyway, this film is more or less The Skin I Live In On a Plane. More importantly, though, the film shares its English title with a very famous song by The Pointer Sisters, which got us thinking: what other films out there have famous songs for titles? Turns out, loads. Because nothing in this wretched world is original.

Following hard-on from the news of the Pope’s resignation from the see of St Peter, we at BFF Towers got to thinking about some other epic resignations that have found their way onto our screens over the years. Eclectically scouring the realms of both television and cinema, we’ve come up with a Top 10 that could fuel the firing of any popemobile. Enjoy.
Top 10 REAL Disney villains on trial
Disney films are, as we all know, based on inspiring stories of good overcoming evil. Or are they? Think vandalism, self-sacrifice, kidnap, false imprisonment, blackmail and murder. Think regicide. Think false heroes paraded through the world of animation, held up as icons to children too young to know better. But WE know better. And while you might think Maleficent, Captain Hook and the numerous Wicked Stepmothers are the bad guys of Disney, you’re sorely mistaken.
It’s time to take a long hard look at the top 10 real Disney villains – and, this time around, they’re paying for their crimes…
Top 10 Scottish Films
In celebration of Burns Night, we at Best for Film have compiled our favourite Scottish films, whether they be set in Scotland, or made by Scottish directors, all these films have made a name for themselves internationally as well as domestically, proving that Scotland has a rich cinematic history. In no particular order, these films are all worthy of a watch, or a second watch if you’ve already seen them. With so much to be patriotic about, ol’ Rabbie Burns would be proud.
Top 10 Clone Films
With news from Harvard that we may soon be cloning an authentic Neanderthal (if the scientists can find ‘an enthusiastic female’ to impregnate), we got to thinking about films that have featured clones over the years. The list below should be a top ten, but has become a Top 10 + 2, presumably because a process of cloning clone films and unintentionally breeding new ones has also been occurring without our knowledge. Top 10 Unsung Gangsters
The release of Gangster Squad has got us reminiscing about our favourite screen mobsters, and we thought it was about time someone lent a voice to the most unsung criminal masterminds in film. But don’t go looking for Goodfellas and Godfathers – we’ve excluded Scorsese, because his characters are a whole top 10 on their own. NO MORE shall these forgotten bandits be ignored. Who’s the most ruthless, the most unsung gangster of them all? (Some of these are cartoons, by the way. What does that tell you about your childhood?)
