Tricycle Theatre special screening – Thieves by Law + Q&A

By turns hilarious and horrific, this extraordinary film from Alexander Gentelev offers a shockingly frank account of Russian gangsterism as told by the high-living criminal elite themselves. As a trio of criminal bosses are interviewed in opulent Mediterranean villas, expensive restaurants and luxury hotels, together they paint a picture of the modern Russian mafia as legitimized, rather than organised crime.

A discussion on the Russian Underworld will take place following the screening with guests including:

– Luke Harding, an award-winning journalist at the Guardian and author of the recently published book Mafia State, a startling first-hand account of life in Putin’s Russia
– Federico Varese, Professor of Criminology in the Department of Sociology at the University of Oxford and author of The Russian Mafia and Mafias on the Move.

The screening is part of DocHouse Thursdays (supported by The Bertha Foundation) an initiative that brings the very best in award-winning international documentaries to London.

Tickets are £9/£7 concs. There are a limited number of Student Early Bird tickets for £5. To take advantage of this offer book online with the promotional code STUDENT. This is a limited offer and student identification will be required on collection.
