Amazing Spider-Man 2 to feature Green Goblin?

Speculation mounted over the weekend that Dane DeHaan, who is wowing critics in indie flick Kill Your Darlings at the Sundance Film Festival, will be playing Green Goblin in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. DeHaan is cast to play Harry Osborn, the role played by James Franco in the Saim Raimi outings a few years ago. However, although Franco did become the Green Goblin in the third Raimi picture, it had been thought that the transformation would not take place in the new film, particularly since Jaimie Foxx has top villain billing as Electro.

All this gossip was caused when DeHaan’s Killing Your Darlings director John Krokidas introduced his star on stage as “the green goblin” to gasps and shrieks, igniting a veritable bomb under the seats of any assembled Spider-fans there and soon throughout this vast web-filled world. At the moment, of course, all is speculation, hearsay and excitable fan-tweets. What’s certain is that DeHaan is a great choice for Harry Osborn, having impressed us greatly with his outing as the troubled teen Andrew in last year’s Chronicle.

Marc Webb’s new outing is set for a UK release on 18th April 2014, so there’s plenty of time for the studio to tease, mess, or clarify the state of affairs for fans. Until then, check back here for all your Spider news.

Will young Dane DeHaan’s star continue to rise after appearing in a Spider-Man film? Are you convinced by any of this Green Goblin speculation? LET US KNOW
