Cavalcade of stars join Run For Your Wife

Ray Cooney’s classic play Run For Your Wife, which ran for a record-breaking nine years in the West End, is finally coming to the silver screen – and it’s going to be crammed with star cameos.

Cooney, who turned down Hollywood offers for a big-budget American remake and is directing the project himself, has cast 160 of his friends (including Rolf Harris, Sir Cliff Richard, Maureen Lipman, Dennis Waterman, Sylvia Sims, Ray Winstone, Prunella Scales and June Whitfield) in small uncredited roles, with their fees being donated to a theatrical charity.

However, the star cast is a little less encouraging. Danny Dyer will take the lead role of bigamist taxi driver John Smith (originated by Bernard Cribbins, may he live forever), with Denise Van Outen and Sarah Harding playing his two unsuspecting wives. We just hope they get drowned out by the crowd of ageing celebs…
