Ghostbusters 3 must be made ASAP!

Ghostbusters 3 has been languishing in pre-development for some time now, with Bill Murray refusing to do it, then signing on, then refusing to do it again. Who knows where he’s at now. Dan Aykroyd, meanwhile, has been discussing Ghostbusters 3, giving an ultimatum to Sony.

Speaking to Esquire, Dan Akyroyd spoke about developing the story and screenplay alongside Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman:

“I’ve worked on every draft in the last three years, as Ivan has, and now we have a story and a draft that everybody seems to agree would make the third movie. At this point, I think we’re closer than we ever have been.”

Sounds positive! What about Bill Murray’s refusal to get involved with anything Ghostbusters again?

“I’m not sure Billy [has to sign on] anymore, since he abrogated his rights by sort of saying, two years ago, “I don’t want to be involved.” We have to move on, but we’ll always leave a hole for him.”

Wahhh! So sad! How could you make a Ghostbusters film without Bill Murray!? How does Dan feel about Sony dilly-dallying on the production of Ghostbusters 3?

“I’ll be moving on to other things, as will Ivan. We can’t wait forever. And now’s the time to tell the picture company, and I’d say this quite publicly, it’s time now to sit down and make this movie, or you will lose your main principals, and you won’t be able to make it without us, because we have rights, and now is time to make the movie.”

Them’s FIGHTING words! Hear that Sony? Better hurry up and make Ghostbusters 3, because Dan Aykroyd isn’t waiting around! As we all know, the basic premise of Ghostbusters 3 would be the old fuddy-duddy Ghostbusters handing over the reins to a new generation. Young, sprightly ones that are probably attractive and nowhere near as funny as the original crew. What about EVEN MORE Ghostbusters, Dan?

“The movie… totally leads to a next one. It feeds into it very organically.”

We’d be up for Ghostbusters 3, but more than that? You’d have to really impress us, guys. We still remember the mediocrity of Ghostbusters 2 compared to the original. Still, there’s a chance that we’ll see what a GIANT SLOR looks like in one of the films, maybe during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants. Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

Is Ghostbusters 3 a good idea? Should Sony hurry up and give us yearly Ghostbusters films until the end of time!?
