Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters sequel on the way?

Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters, as we’re sure many of you remember, saw Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner load themselves up with weaponry and head off in search of hags to gorily destroy. It was, unsurprisingly, panned by critics worldwide, with scathing criticisms of the two main leads leaving Renner and Arterton whimpering as they busily licked their wounds in a corner somewhere far from view.

Too bad that, in Hollywood, it’s all about the numbers. Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters racked up a cool $200 million in box office figures worldwide – presumably someone rounded up all of the blithering idiots out there and ushered them towards their local multiplex – and now the folks at Paramount and MGM are working on a follow-up to the fairytale flick.

So far, it’s VERY early days. No details have been revealed on Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 so far, other than the fact that Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are probably set to return as producers via their Gary Sanchez company. Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton would seem likely to return because, let’s face it, filming Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 MINUS Hansel and Gretel would be even more stupid than filming a sequel in the first place. Plus the pair probably have sequel clauses written into their contracts (think Rachel Weisz’s reluctant return to The Mummy sequel) so we doubt they have all that much say in the matter.

Thankfully, there’s absolutely no script in place and no director hired just yet, which means that Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 is still just a dollar sign twinkling in the eyes of producers. Fingers crossed that it remains that way for a very long time…
