Jared Harris to play Ulysses S. Grant in Spielberg’s Lincoln

He’s played Moriarty is Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, he’s played… um… Let’s see… (Really, IMDB? Mr Deeds? Why would you bring that up?) Anyway, regardless of his checkered past, Jared Harris has just been cast in Spielberg’s Lincoln project, in which he will play one of the Union’s most famous generals: Ulysses S. Grant.

He joins an insanely talented cast that includes not only Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but also James Spader and Daniel Day-Lewis! Hot damn!

For those of the of you who know nothing about the American Civil War, Grant fought for the Union under Lincoln and eventually became commander of all Union forces. He was also managed to win the war despite (some might even say because of) being a massive alcoholic. As far as 19th Century BAMFs go, General Ulysses S. Grant was one. Good luck, Jared, make us proud. And drunk. Drunk and proud.
