Kate Winslet saves Richard Branson’s mum’s life

This is pretty high up on our Top Things Ever To Happen list. I mean, we thought that after that time when Dick Van Dyke got saved by some dolphins we’d never really be as happy again, but this tops it. Kate Winslet – actress, dress wearer, apparently regular gal – has saved Richard Branson’s mum’s life after carrying her out of a burning building. For real.

Kate was staying in Richard Branson’s Caribbean Island home when lightning struck, the house caught alight and everyone had to be evacuated from the building. Kate Winslet (Kate Winslet, remember, who before this would have been most famous for kicking Leo DiCaprio off a door) swept Branson’s 90 year old mother up in her arms and made her way to the exit. Like an absolute boss.

The house itself was completely incinerated by the fire, but thankfully everyone inside the house got out safely. Mainly because of KATE FREAKIN WINSLET. All she had to say about it was “It’s like being in a film set where you’re waiting for the words ‘cut’ but they just don’t come.” Lad.
