It being April Fools’ Day and all, we’re a bit suspicious of every news story that comes fluttering our way. Keira Knightley falling for Steve Carell? The Atonement ice queen starring in a comedy with the 40-year-old virgin goofball? Seems a bit odd…but report it we will.

The film is Lorene Scafaria’s directorial debut Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, in which humanity faces Armageddon in the form of an Earth-seeking asteroid. Carell plays a man whose wife, in the face of this destruction, leaves him. He in turn sets off to meet an old flame who asks if he wants to spend the end of the world together. However, his neighbour (who Keira is lined up to play) joins him on the trip and things get predictably complicated when they start falling in love.

Baffling, but stranger things have definitely happened.

Any thoughts? Does la Knightley have hitherto unplumbed comedic depths?
