Matt Reeves signs on for Planet of the Apes 3

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes appears to have received something of a vote of confidence from distributors 20th Century Fox, with the news that director Matt Reeves has already been signed on to direct the third film in the rebooted franchise.

Let Me In director Reeves took over from Rupert Wyatt, whose work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes was roundly praise when it opened in 2011. The sequel is due to whoop and chatter its way into cinemas in July, with no release date – or even name – yet confirmed for the proposed threequel. Planet of the Planet of the Apes, perhaps? Apes of the Planet of the Apes? Ape Planet of the Planet of the Apes (on a planet (with apes))? We suspect they’ll go all coy and Christopher Nolan about it and just call it Planet of the Apes, but that’s not going to stop Best For Film from having fun with words (although the words ‘planet’ and ‘apes’ are sort of starting to lose their meaning for us now).

Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke takes over as leading man from Rise…‘s James Franco, with Gary Oldman also set to star and Andy Serkis returning as mo-capped ape king Caesar. We’ll see you back here in six months with a review.

Rise of the PlanetS of the Apes? Maybe apes can survive on Venus! God knows where we’re going with this.
