New Hobbit still shows Bilbo catering for the dwarves

A new still has emerged from the set of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – and despite the fact that about 90% of everything we’ve seen so far has been from inside Bag End, so is this.

The newest image shows Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) in the middle of emptying his larder to feed thirteen hungry dwarves, who turn up in quick succession on the instructions of Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and each want something different to eat and drink. Pictured from left are Bifur (William Kircher), Dwalin (Graham McTavish), Bilbo himself, Bofur (James Nesbitt) and Oin (John Callen).

Here’s the pic (don’t bother clicking it, it wasn’t very big to begin with – not much room for massive lenses in a Hobbit-hole, innit):

After the unfortunately look-at-the-funny-dwarves vibe of their rather hurried introduction in the trailer, this is another fantastic chance to see some of the Company on their own level, as it were. These are clearly not just actors who have been digitally scaled down – they’re a totally different race from Bilbo, with everything from their (relatively) hulking physiques to those disturbingly sexy shovel-sized hands marking them out as the hard men of the mountains. We’re also pleased, as usual, to see James Nesbitt with a plate of something on top of his head.

Do you fancy the dwarves too? Please say yes.
