Robert Pattinson heading into The Desert

Okay Robert Pattinson, this is it. The make or break movie where we all discover if You Can Act. Those looks aren’t going to last forever and eventually those TwiHards are going to hit puberty or something. In November The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 finally hits our screens, the nightmare will officially be over and Rob is going to have to make his way in the world doing more than just covering himself in white base paint and looking intensely into the middle distance.

Director Werner Herzog is bringing the story of Gertrude Bell to life with Queen Of The Desert; he’s got Naomi Watts (also bringing Diana to life in Diana) on board as Bell, and he’s just signed Pattinson as British Army Officer T.E Lawrence. Lawrence found renown for his involvement in the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Turkish rule in 1916, with his activities and vivid writing earning him the name Lawrence of Arabia.

As female role models go, you’d struggle to do better than Gertrude Bell – one of the first women to graduate from Oxford University, she was a writer, traveller, political officer, administrator, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer AND SPY and she and Lawrence helped found the Hashemite dynasties in modern day Jordan and Iraq. So no pressure R-Patz, but looking sexy isn’t going to cut it.
