Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D announces release date

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is going 3D, proving to be as persistant as Leatherface chasing a bunch of hitchhikers around.

John Lussenhop is set to direct, and producer Carl Mazzocone has been heard saying they will make it, “as horrifying as the original, in 3D”. Sure. Sure.

The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, released in 1974 with limited budget and rudimentary special effects, was an absolute success and one of the best early slasher films. Since then we’ve had (get ready for it) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003 remake) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. All of which were quite simply, massive disappointments. So why anyone thinks this will be any different is beyond us.

But each to their own, and if you’re willing to give the franchise yet another chance, the announced release date is 5th October 2012. Not even Halloween. No, because Halloween 3D is due out then. Sigh.
