The Artist and Tinker Tailor sweep the 2012 BAFTA nominations

After being roundly ignored by the Globes, it looks like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has at least been welcomed into the soft embrace of the BAFTAS. Rounding up eleven nominations in total, it was still just beaten out by silent film The Artist, which racked up twelve. Mon Dieu. The full shortlist is available to view now – let the debate commence!

Drive – another film left out in the cold by the Globes – recieved four nominations including Best Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Carey Mulligan. The best actress nominations went to Berenice Bejo for The Artist, Meryl “I’m going to win” Streep for The Iron Lady, Michelle Williams for My Week With Marilyn, Tilda Swinton for We Need To Talk About Kevin and Viola Davis for The Help. Where was Olivia Colman’s nomination? Yeah, that’s our question too.

Best Actor is causing far less controversy, consisting of a pleasing mix of Brad Pitt for Moneyball, Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, George Clooney for The Descendants, Jean DuJardin for The Artist and Michael Fassbender for Shame. Though no nod for Gosling’s Driver? What’s a charismatic heart-devastater to do…

Full list is below, but rest assured Tyrannosaur doesn’t feature nearly as much as it should. And the wonderful >Kill List and Weekend haven’t even gotten a look in. Cameron’s Big Film Society, hurrah!
