The Avengers’ Hulk to be motion captured. Mark Ruffalo excited.

A chirpy Mark Ruffalo has told New York Magazine’s Vulture blog that he will be playing both Bruce Banner and The Hulk in Marvel Studios’ 2012 superhero spectacular, The Avengers. Yes, Ruffalo will be donning one of those flattering ping-pong ball covered jumpsuits in order to wreak some havoc as the big green monstrosity – and he couldn’t be happier. “I’m really excited,” he gushed, although he is also strangely uninformed.

“No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI,” Ruffalo incorrectly commented. “They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So, I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.” Edward Norton probably thought so too, given that he already played the Hulk that way two years ago. Jibes aside though, we like Ruffalo, so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Performance capture has come a long way since 2008 and his reference to Avatar could mean that Marvel are going to be employing the next level up of technology this time around.

Going on to speaking of his take on Banner, Ruffalo had this to add: “I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one. I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and f*cks everything up.” Ah yes, Bill Bixby’s Bruce Banner – we remember him well. We also remember him turning into Lou Ferrigno when he got angry. But shhh; nobody’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI.
