The Master gets one last trailer

It’s hard to believe, but there are some people who don’t realise that The Master is going to be the best film of 2012 yet. I know, right? If you belong to that weird minority, stop picking and eating your scabs for a second and watch the fourth and final trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson‘s latest, which packs more intrigue into 75 seconds than all the bits of The Hunger Games that weren’t children murdering each other.

Lots to see in this one; more angst from Phoenix, more exceptionalist rhetoric from Hoffman (“Man is not an animal. We are not a part of the animal kingdom.”), more.. well, we’re sure Amy Adams will have stuff to do in the actual film. There’s not much here in terms of plot that we weren’t already aware of, but Hoffman’s arrest as Phoenix brawls with the fuzz looks great, and it looks like the story will concern the rise and fall of the cult itself, rather than just the characters as has been suggested previously.

A few people have already seen a 70mm print of The Master (it was surprise-screened in Chicago after a showing of The Shining) and the response was ecstatic, to put it lightly. Tweeted highlights include “Its like nothing ever seen before”, “Possibly the best film watching experience I’ve ever had” and “A movie has never made me feel quite like this one did. I can’t describe it or even rate it. I am speechless” UK release is slated for September 14th, and waiting for it is making our genitals hurt.
