With news from Harvard that we may soon be cloning an authentic Neanderthal (if the scientists can find ‘an enthusiastic female’ to impregnate), we got to thinking about films that have featured clones over the years. The list below should be a top ten, but has become a Top 10 + 2, presumably because a process of cloning clone films and unintentionally breeding new ones has also been occurring without our knowledge. Beloved director of Top Gun and Man on Fire Tony Scott’s death in August ruled as suicide by L.A. County Coroner
Answers are coming! Then probably more questions! Then a crushing sense of disappointment! Yayyyyy!
A few days ago, Best For Film’s editor John Underwood said something very, very rash on Twitter: “Deckard was so a replicant.” Just the sort of blasé observation that would usually pass unnoticed amongst the LOLcats and nasty comments about Giles Coren… usually, yes, but not this time. PROMETHEUS PROMETHEUS PROMETHEUS FOREVER ARGHHH. Yeah yeah, sure we all know Scotty too hotty is the man behind the biggest thing to happen to aliens since The Fresh Prince put a suit on, but how much do you really know about him? Did you know he was supposed to design the Daleks? That he got his big break on a Hovis advert? That he directed Blade Runner? OK fine, ignore that last one, but FOR THE REST, we’ve got a CHEAT SHEET!
Seriously, we’re asking you.
It’s 2012. The planets are aligning; if you glance upwards into a star-filled sky, you’ll see Venus, Jupiter and Mars are all visible. If you read the Daily Mail, you’ll know that a “Death Star” has been seen “refueling” at the surface of the Sun (genuine news story). And, if you’re awesome, you’ll know that dystopian epic “The Hunger Games” is hitting cinemas everywhere. End of the world? Time for a drink then…
