Dr Who, aka Matt Smith, has been cast in a leading role in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, How To Catch A Monster.

Set in London, 1962, Ginger & Rosa is a largely insufferable coming-of-age story, charting the friendship between two teenage girls set against a backdrop of the threat of nuclear destruction and the beginning of the change in attitudes towards sex and femininity that the 60s instigated. Wonderfully shot, but populated with insufferable characters and terrible British accents, Ginger & Rosa is a psuedo-intellectual endeavor, overflowing with proto-philosphical nonsense.

With a hiatus of well over a decade, Detachment is director Tony Kaye’s first feature film since American History X. A stylized indie exploration of the life of a high school substitute and the broken public school system, it’s visually very impressive and boasts a stellar cast being totally stellar. Unfortunately it insists on hurling misery at you like its disaffected teens throw the outdated resource materials in their underfunded library at each other (violently and often).

Welcome to the circus kiddies – you’re about to witness a whole lot of juggling. Because Kate has a job and (wait for it) A FAMILY (gasp). It’s the overdone dilemma of balancing a hectic work schedule alongside raising kids. How does she do it?! Prepare your poor ears for that exact sentence at least seven times.
