This Sunday, Colin Firth was awarded the Best Actor Bafta for A Single Man in a blaze of long overdue glory. Though he didn’t manage to clinch the Oscar, based on the performance his gives in this stunning, subtle, and achingly lovely film we reckon he deserved it.

Kevin Bacon Joins the New Comedy From Steve Carell

Kevin Bacon has signed up to play the lover of an adulterous wife in an as-yet-untitled comedy. Written by Dan Fogelman and helmed by I Love You Phillip Morris directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, the new comedy will star the always-hilarious Steve Carell as a lovable loser married to cheating wife Julianne Moore.

Director Atom Egoyan probes the destructive power of obsession in this English language adaptation of Anne Fontaine’s 2003 film, Nathalie. Shot on location in wintry Toronto, which is almost as cold as some of the characters’ emotions, Chloe charts the journey of sexual re-discovery of a despairing wife whose marriage has been stuck in a rut for years. The method she chooses to reinvigorate her ailing relationship is unorthodox to say the least, unlocking deep-rooted desires that put not only herself but also her entire family in danger.

A Single Man

Colin Firth’s performance – though well deserving of the hype – is just one of the many pleasures of fashion doyen Tom Ford’s directorial debut, based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood. Adapted for the screen by Ford and David Scearce, A Single Man is a haunting drama about a fifty-something scholar, who secretly says farewell to the people he loves as he contemplates suicide.

17 Again

For those who enjoy a mindless Sunday afternoon spent in front of a predictably happy rom-com, 17 Again is one of the better out there at the moment. Matthew Perry and Zac Efron are their dependably entertaining selves, while I Love You Man’s Thomas Lennon injects some scene-stealing hilarity.
