  • Love and Other Impossible Pursuits

    Natalie Portman’s shiny new Academy Award is going to reflect an awful lot of spotlights on her over the next few years. This should be fine, of course, but it’s not ideal when the project currently in the post-Oscar glare is a distinctly average drama which she made before Black Swan and which has only just crept onto DVD. The only impossibility in Love and Other Impossible Pursuits is enjoying it.

    Finally, a worthy successor to the biting day-glo comedy Mean Girls. Easy A is an effortlessly cool high school comedy, fronted by the delightful up-and-comer Emma Stone. Though laid back parents Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson absolutely steal the show, there’s not a lot to dislike about this witty tale of gossip, reputation and the power of infamy.

    They’ll be there for you… all ten seasons of them in one handy collection. Although it’s been 4 years since the final episode of Friends aired, there seems to be no end in sight for the popularity of this cultural phenomenon. And to be honest, we can see why. Brilliant writing, characters you can’t help but fall in love with, and a theme tune that somehow never gets annoying. Even now it’s a great Christmas present, and we’ll probably be saying the same thing next year.
