The war against ‘sizeist’ Hollywood. Are you in, or out?

There’s no denying that the ‘size zero’ culture has taken over the entertainment industry, and there is now an increasingly huge amount of pressure on film and TV stars to conform to Hollywood’s idea of perfection. But that idea is changing all the time – skinny was in, then curvy was in and now they just can’t make up their minds.

Oscars: The Winners, The Losers, The Big Night

Well, what a night, eh? It was glorious to have a real nail-biter of a ceremony, with the David and Goliath battle that was Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker. But, in the end, Katheryn Bigelow’s budget Iraq epic took home the gold, in a night that was revolutionary, though rather predictable.

The Lovely Bones

When published in 2002 The Lovely Bones was an instant success, climbing to top of the UK as well as US book charts. So how do you tell a tale about the grizzly rape and murder of a 14 year-old girl onscreen, whilst making sure it can be released a PG? By getting rid of that pesky rape and muder part, of course! Peter Jackson’s take on Alice Sebold’s novel is certainly beautiful to look at, but it has to be asked, is that really the point?

Precious

n terms of hype, Precious is the only film in months that has managed to come close to the endless Avatar onslaught. This is in part due to the number of people that were genuinely affected by the film’s story – that of a 16-year-old girl lived in Halem, horribly abused and hopeless scrabbling through life with only dead ends in front of her. And it is in part (perhaps the more significant part) due to the massive impact that Oprah Winfrey’s opinion has on the American public.

Deja vu at the SAG Awards

Last night saw the envelopes opened at the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild, and many of the winners have probably only just shaken off the hangover from winning at last week’s Golden Globes. With Tinseltown trends running strong as ever, it’s likely a few of the same names will be picking up more mantelpiece bling at the Academy Awards in March.

Sundance 2010 Launches Tonight!

It seems like only yesterday that Sundance critics were raving about little known films Precious and (500) Days Of Summer,but believe it or not, it’s that time of year again! The Sundance Film Festival, a Utah based independent film festival, celebrates undiscovered film talent from around the world, and prides itself on promoting micro-budget quality flicks.

BAFTA Nominations Announced

Nominations for BAFTA 2010 are in, and it’s a pretty mixed bag. Despite the much-hyped domination of James Cameron’s Avatar for a million trillion weeks running at the box office, the epic is sharing its lead position of eight nominations with two other films – acclaimed drama The Hurt Locker and 2009′s standout British work An Education.

Put Down the Script and Stick to the Mic!

Once you find what it is you’re good at then just go with that, right? There’s no need to try your hand at anything else. Take the warblers and crooners for example; mainly the ones that sing about love, relationships and all that romantic crap. They should just stick to their day jobs. There’s absolutely no need for them to attempt a career in acting because quite frankly, it’s embarrassing for everyone.
