The revenge genre is crowded with jilted Brides and freed slaves, but in Dead Man Down Colin Farrell shows us that humble Hungarian immigrants have feelings too. While Oplev’s film may be ill-suited to the summer season (it’s slow-burning and relatively subtle), it could still pass the time on a rainy Monday evening.
Movie 43 may already be the most derided film of all time, and it’s only been in the cinema for less than a week. It’s an ‘anthology film’ of thirteen or more (depending on how you count) short, non-related comedy sketches directed by various different people. We decided to check it out and reflect on what, if anything, it could all mean.
Based on Jack Kerouac’s semi-autobiographical masterpiece, On The Road is awash with promiscuous sex, rambling prose and cool jazz. Fans of the book may appreciate the loosely structured narrative, but will soon tire of the repetitive plot developments which become so monotonous as to lack reason and purpose.

The only history lesson on offer here is a little recap of ‘The Great Beard in the post-Episode VI era’, which is justly left out of textbooks because it’s really rather sad.
