3D Smurfs: The Stuff Of Nightmares

Through black magic, a voodoo curse or careless emailing, a black and white image of a new smurf character design has been leaked onto UGO. And we have to say, we’re pretty terrified.

It’s not just the ghostly quality of the grainy image, but the smurfs just somehow seem like creatures that don’t belong in this new 3D world, their creepy blue faces seem so much more grotesque in a CGI format. And is it just us… or do his eyes follow you wherever you go?

Well, whether you want it or not, a new Smurf live action film (a Smurf live action film?!) is being made as we speak in Central Park. It’s being directed by Raja Gosnell of Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Scooby-Doo. So at least he’s got experience with scary cartoon ghoulies. We’re not sure what to think about all this, except that we’re not even sure why we’re surprised. There’s very little that isn’t getting the 3D CGI treatment these days, so perhaps we can look forward to news breaking about Moomins 3D: Moomins All Up In Your Face any day now.
