Carrie Remake Announced

MGM and Screen Gems have teamed up to do a remake of Brian De Palma’s 1976 classic Carrie. Based on Steven King’s first published work the film follows a bullied high school girl who develops telekinetic powers. After being pushed too far on prom night she takes her revenge. Hell hath no fury like a high school girl scorned.

The remake, which does not have a production date set, is claiming that it will stay closer to the novel then the original film. The playwright Roberto Aggurie-Sacassa has been recruited to write the script. Despite never writing for the screen before he has the right credentials; being the genius behind Marvel’s graphic novel adaptation of Steven King’s The Stand.

We’re not entirely sure what to make of this; on the one hand Carrie is a classic that should not be tampered with but on the other Aggurie-Sacassa looks like he might be up to the task. Only time will tell.
