Elton John: The Movie?

Move over Martin Luther King biopics, it’s time to showcase someone who really made a difference. The Rocketman himself, Elton John has announced that he and his partner David Furnish are teaming up with writer Lee Hall to create an Elton John biopic. He promises it will be surreal. Lovely.

Speaking about the project, John said: “I’d just like to make a really great film about my life story. We have a great script already by Lee Hall who wrote ‘Billy Elliot’. Obviously, it’s not going to be your normal, run of the mill film because my life has kind of been crazy. And I think it’s important to do a kind of surrealistic take on my life.”

Hall and Elton are already working together on a stage musical of Animal Farm – the classic George Orwell novel – but it looks like it’ll be a while before we get any news on that; Hall has admitted that it’s going to take “at least two years” before its ready to go. So what will come first, the pig-based anti-communist musical, or the world’s sparkliest biopic? Only time will tell…
