Grumpy Cat to get her own film

Internet phenomenon Grumpy Cat (or Tardar Sauce as she is known to her owners for some reason) is reportedly going to be the star (ish) of her own Hollywood film. Having already bagged the prestigious title of Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards (previously held by Nyan Cat because cats are all there is), T. Sauce now looks set for even greater heights. According to the folks over at Deadline, Todd Garner and Sean Robins are behind the project and are planning to transform everyone’s favourite sourpuss into a talking film character, à la Garfield.

Obviously, the main problem here is that this film is not going to be funny. The charm of Grumpy Cat is that she is a real cat who happens to have a very funny looking face. Presumably, this film will necessitate at least some CGI manipulation (seeing how cats can’t talk IRL and all that) meaning – of course – that T. Sauce will cease to be funny. A concept that most of us are familiar with is that cartoon faces are not bound by the same rules as real cat faces; thus a funny CGI cat face will never be as funny AS A FUNNY REAL CAT FACE.

However this film turns out, the whole thing officially marks the death of one of our favourite memes. You heard it here first, folks: Grumpy Cat is no longer cool. Thanks for ruining our fun Hollywood.

Are you a fan of Grumpy Cat and will you be watching her on the big screen?
