Hendrix estate comments on biopic speculation

Experience Hendrix, the company which owns legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix’ intellectual copyright, has finally waded into the war of words surrounding proposed biopic All Is By My Side.

The film, which will star Andre Benjamin (better known as hippity-hoppity person Andre 3000) as Hendrix, will reportedly begin filming in Ireland later this month. It will deal with the time Hendrix spent in London (he first visited the city in 1966), and will presumably culminate with his death in Kensington in 1970.

Experience Hendrix had this to say:

“Various media outlets have recently published accounts that indicate a feature length Jimi Hendrix biographical film is nearing production. Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.

Experience Hendrix CEO Janie L. Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a “biopic” in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.”

…that’s fair enough. Your move, Andre!

Shake it, sh-shake it, shake it, sh-shake it, shake it, sh-shake it, shake it like a Polaroid picture…
