Ridley Scott to make Youtube movie

Who needs a movie about Facebook, when you can get involved with the cinematic debut about cats on treadmills and fat kids dancing? No, luckily, the newly announced Youtube movie is going to be a bit more interesting than that…

Ridley Scott has teamed up with Kevin Macdonald for a new project entitled Life In A Day. The premise is fairly simple; they ask YouTubers to shoot a moment from their lives on the 24th of July 2010, then to upload their video to Youtube. Together, Scott and Macdonald will go through all of the entries (a glamourous life indeed eh) and pick and choose the ones they find the most interesting, uniting them in a feature-length documentary.

“Life In A Day is a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010,” says Macdonald. “It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking, and what better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world’s online community.”

It’s one of those ideas that could go either way, but with Ridley Scott at the helm we have to say we’re pretty excited. Will you be uploading your snippet? If you need even more incentive, 20 lucky film-makers will be whisked off to the Sundance Festival to see the final product’s world premiere!

Will you be contributing to Life In A Day?
