Smurfs 2 gets the green (blue?) light

We should probably just mock up a template story to deal with all That Thing No-one Liked Is Getting A Sequel news. Sigh. Today, it’s The Smurfs. Yep, no-one really liked it. Yep, it’s getting a sequel. Are we done here?

Despite lack-lustre reviews (even from us, lovers of comedy dwarves), it sounds like writers J. David Stem and David Weiss have been drafted back in to pen another outing in Smurf-ville, with a provisional release date of August 2013. No news on whether stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays (not to mention Smurfette, Papa Smurfy, Calcium Smurfide, Smurfoo, Smongle etc) will be back next time around, but hey, at least we’ve got loads of time to vaguely dread it. The only silver lining we can see is that a sequel might mean that we get to see more of Hank “steal the entire thing” Azaria as the dastardly Gargamel. And even then…
