  • TGIM! Peckham & Nunhead Free Film Festival

    Now that Film4’s Frightfest has been and gone, leaving gory red stains of blood and viscera all over London (pity the poor street-cleaners), there’s a somewhat tamer festival of all things film for the capital to embrace. Called the Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival, it does exactly what it says on the tin, exactly where it says on the tin. The festival has a diverse roster of films and events, all of which are wonderfully free.

    In this vast, unknowable, ever-changing universe there are few things which we can safely rely on to remain constant. Thus those that do, those that struggle on relentlessly, blithely ignoring the evanescent nature of human existence – taxes, the Kardashians, films which pit one mythical creature/alien/abstract concept against another in a brutal fight to the death – can only bring us joy.   • Monsters Vs Aliens

    An action packed yet rather fluffy CGI-romp from Dreamworks. Aliens are attacking, and the only ones who can beat them are monsters imprisoned by the government. For the wee ones, the in-jokes, great graphics and cameo appearances will be enough to satisfy, but if you’re looking for something with a bit more heart, we’d recommend the meatier offerings from Disney/Pixar.
