    Casting directors probably have one of the most important jobs in Hollywood. When it comes to getting somebody right for a role, all sorts of things have to be taken into consideration, like if they have the right look, or if they’re a cokehead who might just not turn up on set or whether or not they’re Jennifer Lawrence (so hot right now). Sometimes, casting directors take a chance and get it spot on – Heath Ledger as The Joker, anyone? Other times, they not only get it wrong. They get it really, really, weird.



  • Dead Man Down

    The revenge genre is crowded with jilted Brides and freed slaves, but in Dead Man Down Colin Farrell shows us that humble Hungarian immigrants have feelings too. While Oplev’s film may be ill-suited to the summer season (it’s slow-burning and relatively subtle), it could still pass the time on a rainy Monday evening.






  • Prometheus

    If you’re walking into this film expecting Alien: 2012 think again. Prometheus is a grandiose but significantly flawed film; underpinned by a vastly ambitious concept that is, in many ways, its undoing. Featuring a stellar central performance from Michael Fassbender and built upon some stunning, imaginative visuals, Prometheus nonetheless manages to feel bloated, confused and – dare I say it – even a little naff at times. But its unusual, heartfelt approach – there is no doubt that this was a labour of love for Ridley Scott – and attempts at tackling some of the universal questions make it uncommon viewing.
