    You might not be tempted by Buried – after all, it’s by a director you’ve never heard of and it stars an actor best known for playing vapid romantic interests or unnecessarily violent supervillains. We’d more or less written Ryan Reynolds off too, but in this extraordinary film he demonstrates a range and talent which left us gasping for breath. A bit like him, because he’s been buried alive.

    British actress Tilda Swinton stars in this Italian film about the trials and tribulations of a wealthy family in Milan. Swinton, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for her performance in Michael Clayton, has starred in a string of hit movies in recent years, including the Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

  • ‘In Memorium’ Oscars Controversy

    Ever since the Oscars aired on Sunday, there has been anger directed at the creator of the ‘In Memorium’ reel for neglecting to honour Farah Fawcett.

    The Charlie’s Angels actress died in June of last year after struggling with cancer since 2006, and apparently her family were hurt and saddened by the fact that she wasn’t included in the In Memorium section of the Oscar ceremony.


  • Oscars Ratings Best In 5 Years

    God bless nail-biting competition. This year Oscar viewing figures have been the best in 5 years, with almost 41 million people in the US tuning in. This, of course, was mainly down to the battle of the titans that was Avatar vs The Hurt Locker, and the story was made all the juicer by the fact that the two directors used to be married. Of course, in the end Avatar walked away with just 3 awards, and The Hurt Locker stole the evening by winning Best Picture and Best Director

    Crimety, people are getting banned from the cinematic event of the year left, right and centre. First a Hurt Locker producer is dis-invited for vote-mongering, and now it seems like Sacha Baron Cohen has been given his marching orders too. At least they have each other.
