Short film of the week: Charlie

Charlie is the story of a tribute to a father, an homage to Charlie Chaplin and a celebration of the ongoing power of the film short; written and directed by Luke Snellin (winner of Virgin Media Shorts 2010).

In two short minutes, Charlie manages to make elegance seem effortless, evoking times gone by on modern urban streets, brilliantly and succinctly echoing the stark monochrome contrasts of classical cinema, and – best of all – showing glimmers of the bittersweet pathos of the silent funnyman himself.

The film was made to mark the launch of Virgin Media Shorts 2011. Go to virginmediashorts.co.uk for more information and to enter this year’s competition.
