The “found footage” sub-genre shows no sign of slowing down, with a new trailer for Grave Encounters appearing online.

The setting is a clasically creepy one – an abandoned asylum, and a pseudo-investigative TV show in the style of Most Haunted or Ghost Adventures provide the perfect excuse for the intrepid young team to stay the night there.

The trailer showcases some excellent scares in the vein of Paranormal Activity, and builds momentum to an ending which will unfortunately draw more laughs than screams with some pretty awful CGI…The demon/ghost/possessed girl does bear a striking resemblance to one of the ghosts from Super Mario…

Grave Encounters currently has no UK release date, and so may well end up being a direct to DVD effort. A solid concept and some good “Boo!” moments do mark this out as being worth a look however, despite the ropey special effects we are treated to in the video. Hopefully directors “The Vicious Brothers” will be able to deliver another effective shocker, although competition will be fierce with Super 8, Area 51, and the promising Apollo 18 all out next year.
