Spooky TV series Supernatural is an undiscovered treasure – certainly in the UK. It has everything – great character development, witty and inventive scripting, and epic ambition in terms of story arc. Win a Supernatural Season 5 DVD boxset! Competition ends 23 November 2010.
Five seasons in, and we’re still guiltily addicted to the demon-based trials and tribulations of the Winchester brothers. Mixing ghoulish plots, high tension, tongue in cheek comedy and damn fine cheekbone acting, we defy anyway not to get some form of dark pleasure from this genre-defying scare-fest.
Hyper Japan, a three day “pop culture” event made its way to The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane last weekend. Imagine all things Japanese under a London roof; food, art, gaming, fashion and technology (I saw my first 3D telly!) and you’ve got something a bit like it. But I had no time for Japanese tomfoolery, I was there with a purpose. So I tore myself away from the manga illustrators and Japanese fashion show, slapped on my film hat and went to be wowed (and a bit weirded out) by the joy and absudity of anime.
You know us, at BestForfilm, right? Well, we’re hard, we are. Proper nails, us lot. Steely determination, nerves like copper wire, and a mind like a steel trap. Takes a lot for us to sit up and take note of a horror film, let alone have us squealing like jessies and jumping out of our seats. Will Paranormal Activity, the much hyped-shocker in the “found footage” genre, really be something new, or is it all bumf in the night?
