We love you, independent cinemas, we dooo! In a bit to combat the Big Four’s relentless stranglehold over British cinema we like to highlight our favourite indie venues, and this week we’re lavishing our insistent and faintly suffocating love all over the matchless Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn, a Mecca for fans of stage and screen alike.

If language is the greatest product of humanity, and Shakespeare the greatest product of language, then Shakespeare is the greatest product of humanity. Don’t argue. What’s at stake here is why someone thought it would be a good idea to adapt the Bard in a way that results in everyone hating him.

We all love a good book. We all love a good film. But we all hate a bad adaptation. This year, major releases such as Brighton Rock and The Rum Diary (not to mention the final episode of the Harry Potter series), are due to attract big numbers in the box office. But with a plethora of books flying from the shelf to our cinema screens, what makes a good adaptation?

White shutters. Dry-cleaned clothes. Fresh flowers. A massive apartment in downtown New York. Nothing wrong with any of these things, except when the girl in the film is meant to be a dogwalker. These be the disgusting tales that chick flicks weave with their nail polished fingers, and we are all victims of their beautiful lies.

Disaster! It’s Wednesday, but at Best For Film Towers team members are dropping like flies (has anyone ever actually seen a fly drop?) and our collective power is waning under the relentless bacterial onslaught. Still, that’s not going to stop us infecting whole screens full of Orange Wednesday-goers, so the least you can do is read this blog and find out where we won’t be sitting.

…And we don’t mean because of that unfortunate Brother Bear episode. The Disney Corporation are famously careful for keeping their secrets firmly to their brightly coloured, endlessly cheery chests, and it’s time we all knew a little more about their dastardly working habits. No wonder their villains are so convincing…

Children’s films are at an all time popularity high, with Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney and many more rolling out animated films aimed at adults and kids alike. So here at Best For Film, we thought we would help them out by suggesting a few adaptations we would like to see on the big screen.

Benito Robinsoni rose to film short fame with grindhouse movie trailer Slash Hive. We caught him in between feature films (giallo slasher and supernatural cop movie) to froth over Neon Killer, a hilarious nod to the luridly graphic excess of 1970s Poliziotteschi movies.
