Cruz and Bardem wed in secret ceremony
Best For Film is happy to report that two of our favourite Spaniards have tied the knot! Oscar winners Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, the first Spanish actor and actress ever to be honoured by the Academy, were married last week at a friend’s Bahamian retreat.
The low profile stars reputedly became a couple in 2007 on the set of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, where they somehow grabbed some time together in between making a Woody Allen film bearable for the first time in years. However, Cruz and Bardem go way back – they first acted together in 1992, when ‘Pe’ was a teenage debutante appearing in her first film, Jamón Jamón.
Cruz has since been involved with Tom ‘I may be short but I have a crazy religion’ Cruise, which must have caused some mix-ups amongst lisping fans – we think she’s far better off with Bardem, the scion of a century-old acting dynasty which has long bestridden Spanish theatre. Here’s hoping that in twenty years or so the next generation of Bardem-Cruz thespians are ready to hit the big screen! Best For Film joyfully offers cinema’s newest power couple its warm congratulations.
