Caroline O’Donoghue is a journalist, blogger and professional Irish person. Her special moves include romantic comedies of the mid to late nineties, Tekken 4 and shame. She has problems with Mad Men, and any other 40-minute TV show set in the past. She would like everyone to know that she gleefully quit a promising job in retail to be here, and that Cillian Murphy is from her hometown. So is Jonathan Rhys-Myers, but we don’t talk about that.
Kayleigh Dray studied at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry and specialised in Muggle Literature and Creative Writing. Since then, she has written for Cosmopolitan and The Film Pilgrim, perfecting her signature sarcastic tone (and dating advice) just in time for her arrival at Best For Film. She grew up on film sets and, looking at her eclectic selection of DVDs, it seems her dream film might be Killer Dinosaurs From Space: The Musical, starring Audrey Hepburn (complete with lightsaber and Scream mask), written by Tim Burton and directed by Steven Spielberg. Now THAT’S entertainment!
Just finished a ‘degree’ in ‘Creative Writing’. My current interests include coming up with Game of Thrones-related puns, quoting Disney films and long walks on the beach. I will never tire of Hot Shots! Part Deux but don’t talk to me about Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. WLTM like-minded film and/or birdwatchers. I go by Flo, but you can call me flowers if you want to.
Jonny is a maverick with nothing left to lose and if he doesn’t do this one by the book the chief is going to have his badge. His writing has been described as automatic, systematic and hydromatic, but he doesn’t care because like a bat out of hell he navigates mostly by sonar. He loves noir, westerns and horror – anything where people talk in creatively abnormal ways.
Robert is a freelance writer specialising in film and technology. Since completing his Film Studies MA at King’s College London in 2011, he has been writing for several websites and blogs including WhatCulture, The Independent blogs and now Best For Film. On the side, he’s an aspiring screenwriter, but isn’t getting carried away with lofty visions of Hollywood stardom just yet.
David Martin is a 29 year old film critic, screenwriter and web journalist who works and lives in London. Examples of his work can be found polluting various websites including Nerditorial, Sick Chirpse and London Festival Fringe. His writing has been hailed as, amongst other things, “competent” and “legible”. He has a lot of opinions if you’d care to listen.
Magda Knight has forgotten more about owls than you could ever hope to learn. When she isn’t weaving her dark magic all over Best For Film she enjoys pretentious coffee, careless whispers, gardening and learning to play the violin (not all at once), and can frequently be found charging round forests with a big rubber sword. If she had to be a character from Trolls 2 she’d be the exploding corn on the cob, which probably tells you all you need to know about her.
Roxane has come a long way since she was a small Asian boy who went on wacky adventures with an incredibly handsome archaeologist who for some disturbing reason carried a whip everywhere and kept going into rooms with strange ladies and they would make funny sounds and she’d cover her ears and cry… a long way.
My movie namesake describes me thus: “She’s the devil incarnate. She’s Christine. Body by Plymouth, soul by Satan.”
When I am not busy mowing people over in the guise of a ’58 Plymouth Fury possessed by hell, you are likely to find me being stalked by operatic phantoms and demon goats. Oh, and when I was eleven I ran a website dedicated exclusively to cats (not of the musical kind). That last part is actually true.
Andrew is an old man who lives in his bedroom with his laptop it is his friend. Andrew likes films. He has liked films for such a long time he almost did not notice that most of the time they are not very good. But then a few years ago he did notice, but he still watches the films anyway and in his reviews he is generally nice about them but secretly he has not liked the films. If you have made a film do not show it to Andrew as he will not like your film.
