The release of Gangster Squad has got us reminiscing about our favourite screen mobsters, and we thought it was about time someone lent a voice to the most unsung criminal masterminds in film. But don’t go looking for Goodfellas and Godfathers – we’ve excluded Scorsese, because his characters are a whole top 10 on their own. NO MORE shall these forgotten bandits be ignored. Who’s the most ruthless, the most unsung gangster of them all? (Some of these are cartoons, by the way. What does that tell you about your childhood?)

Film is undoubtedly the art form that speaks to us the most here at Best For Film but there is one other that surpasses it. Music. Music is awesome. The right song can take your mood from FML to LMAO. The right song can mend your broken heart. The right music can cure a terminal disease. Ok, that last part was a little much but you get the drift. So, you can imagine how excited we get when music and film become one. Here follows a list of our favourite uses of music in film.

Everyone loves Jim Carrey, and what better time to do a shambolic career appraisal than with Mr. Popper’s Penguins coming out next week? Obviously that film will render this list null and void, and all other “Best Film” lists, as it promises to be ruddy brilliant, but until it that day here are our Top 10 Jim Carrey films. Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor – two great actors that have been somewhat off the radar of late. We’re glad to announced that in uniting in black comedy I Love You Phillip Morris they both show that they’re far from out for the count. But, though it’s McGregor who nabs the titular charcacter, Carrey is the one who steals the show.
