G.I. Joe: Retaliation has an explosive new trailer
G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been on the backburner for a while now, having had its initial release date of June 2012 pushed back almost a year. The reason for the delay is apparently due to the post-conversion effort, in order to get the film out in 3D, but there have also reportedly been lengthy re-shoots due to concerns about the quality of the script and to include more scenes featuring Channing “Box-Office” Tatum. It’s good that they’re trying, but let’s be honest; nobody is watching G.I. Joe: Retaliation for the sparkling dialogue. People are watching it for explosions. And from the look of this new trailer, people won’t be disappointed.
G.I. Joe:Retaliation stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who – if you missed it – continues to be the greatest human being alive today, along with a pretty impressive support cast including Tatum, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, Walton Goggins, RZA, and most exciting of all, Bruce Willis as the original G.I. Joe.
While Bruce Willis appears to be simply playing John McClane again, the prospect of him tooling up with The Rock to save the world is just too awesome to ignore. And the world certainly does need some saving; with the dastardly Zartan posing as the President of the United States, the world’s cities are all at risk. And would you believe it, it’s our beloved London that comes under fire, in a scene of such overblown absurdity that you can’t help but grin.
Samurais fighting each other suspended half way up a mountain? Motorbikes turning into missiles? The Rock and Bruce Willis kicking ass and taking names? The entirety of London being leveled? Director Jon M. Chu – making quite the departure from his previous film – is certainly bringing the gleeful stupidity, and frankly, we can’t wait. Sometimes there’s a need to just switch off and watch dudes being dudes in between giant explosions. Sometimes that’s okay.
