David Fincher’s protegé Noble Jones has been hired to write and direct a new adaptation of American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis’ iconic satire of the 80s yuppie lifestyle.

Jones, who was second unit director on Fincher’s The Social Network but has yet to make his feature debut, pitched Lionsgate his plan for the film last year and delivered a script a month ago.

Ellis himself was famously unimpressed with the 2000 film starring Christian Bale, so it looks like he’s got a second chance to get onboard with an adaptation of his most famous novel (although he previously said it was “a book I didn’t think needed to be turned into a movie”). However, at least Mary Harron’s version was relatively true to the source text – conversely, Noble intends to drag Patrick Bateman out of his home in late-80s New York City and thrust him into the present day. God knows the stereotype of flashy, coke-fuelled Wall Street yuppies is still solid enough, but will the story survive being transplanted into the 2010s?
