CGI effects have revolutionised modern filmmaking to the extent that effects alone can make or break a movie. But is an over-reliance on CGI driving audiences away and cheapening the cinematic experience? We take a look at the computer generated revolution – and how the revolutionaries might soon find themselves in the firing line.
It’s that time of year again! As the seasons turn, our adamant gaze pierces the mists of the future to tell you what you should be seeing next year. And, as usual, it’s mostly superheroes (not our fault the interesting little indie films don’t publicise themselves a year in advance, is it?). This year’s list is in order of release rather than assumed quality, because we keep putting crap films in the top 5 and then regretting it.
Right, it’s come to this. We’ve done the then-topical Top 10 Moustaches in film, the semi-libellous Top 10 reasons Ellen Page is a secret lesbian and the unnecessarily Photoshop-heavy Top 10 films that should be reshot with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role, and now we’re almost completely out of ideas. Having developed acute agoraphobia following a violent attack on his pregnant wife, Tommy (Aneurin Barnard) is locked in constant battle with his condition as he tries to remove his newborn daughter from the dilapidated suburb of Edenstown. Set to run from February 14th – February 24th, Glasgow Film Festival has this week announced its line-up for 2013. With some incredible films in the schedules, we at Best For Film are here to make much ado about something.
Breaking news about oddball Crispin Glover. After a bit of a hiatus from our screens the kooky Back To The Future actor has signed up to be in new indie..
You might not have heard the one about the widower who bought his kids a zoo, but remarkably it has its basis in reality. While Matt Damon’s latest might be far from the actor’s best work, We Bought a Zoo is a touching, humbling and wonderfully gracious film that should begin to undo the damage caused by Kevin James’ atrocious Zookeeper. You can put down that Capuchin, it turns out they’re not all voiced by Adam Sandler.
The release of The Skin I Live In got our minds wandering on the topic of plastic surgery. It wandered to places it probably shouldn’t have.
