Joe Wright injects new life into the period drama format with this lavish adaptation of Tolstoy’s cherished novel. Anna Karenina is a lush, tantalising spectacle which features compelling performances from its leads, Keira Knightley and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but doesn’t quite hit the mark when it comes to plumbing the emotional depths of its tragic story.
When you think of film soundtracks what sort of names do you come up with? John Williams? Danny Elfman? Ennio Morricone, maybe? Well get with the times, guys! It’s all about the pop-star built soundtrack these days. Directors seem to be head hunting big name musicians – ever looking to fill their time in between throwing TV’s out of windows and stealing your girlfriends – to take over the musical reins of their films. They’re doing pretty well too.
Since little Saoirse Ronan has come out all freckled and hard as nails in Hanna, it got us thinking about other kick-ass girl tweens that could give Bruce lee a good hiding. You don’t want to mess with any of these chicks. Not that you would. They’re not even real, man.
