There’s no denying that the ‘size zero’ culture has taken over the entertainment industry, and there is now an increasingly huge amount of pressure on film and TV stars to conform to Hollywood’s idea of perfection. But that idea is changing all the time – skinny was in, then curvy was in and now they just can’t make up their minds.

Jack Black continues to prove that he’s much better off heard and not seen in the stupidly charming Kung Fu Panda 2. Funny, warm, beautiful to look at and packed to the brim with high-speed tail kicking, it just goes to show that sloppy seconds really aren’t Dreamworks’ style.

Jack Black is attempting a serious role?! About time.

It’s summer time and with it comes lots of French people, live action anime, beautiful documentaries, college kids doing what they do, screechy high school girls, fighting pandas and much much more. Excited? I know I am.

There hasn’t been a really, really good film about Jesus for ages, has there? Actually, there hasn’t ever been one – they’re either unpleasantly graphic (The Passion of the Christ) or cringeworthily obsequious (everything else). We can’t be doing with this dearth of watchable Jesus biopics, so we’ve suggested a few leading men (and ladies) who might be up to the job…

The films we hated are now ‘officially’ bad

When will Jack Black stop playing lovable slackers who inexplicably bust out at least one musical number per film? Gulliver’s Travels is pretty much exactly what you’re expecting it to be – adequate, and absolutely nothing more. Excellent visual effects and some well-crafted supporting performances save it from total failure, but all this film really manages is to remind you that in Hollywood, as in Lilliput, bigger isn’t always better.
