Metallica gig in cinemas
Hey, if opera can do it, why can’t heavy metal? Following the massive success of live stream performances from institutions like the Royal Opera House, Metallica have decided that their next gig will be broadcast live in cinemas across the globe.
The band are currently touring Europe as part of the Sonisphere Festival; which has brought metal’s “Big Four” (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer) together for the first time. Guitarist Kirk Hammett says that they came up with the “online concert” idea when despairing the fact that they couldn’t do as many gigs as they wanted –
“We thought, ‘Wow, what a great way to share this with the rest of the world without really going to the rest of the world’. We’re pretty psyched about it because we’ve been getting a lot of requests to take this tour elsewhere and we can’t – this is our way of compensating for that.”
The gig itself will be held in Bulgaria tomorrow night, but it’ll be beamed live to 79 cinemas across the UK, as well as hundreds more worldwide.
