Short Film Of The Week: Meat Love

Anyone not familiar with the fabulously mad work of Jan Svankmajer – today is your lucky day. A Czech surrealist artist whose work was banned by communist authorities by the early 70s, Scvankmajer’s brilliantly bonkers work would go on to inspire the likes of Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam and The Brothers Quay. In this film, Meat Love, he uses stop-motion and puppetry to explore a love affair between two slabs of meat; the result is jarring, creepy and oddly compelling. Enjoy.
