No Sinestro for Green Lantern Movie?
Anyone hoping for the classic Green Lantern über-villain Sinestro in Martin Campbell’s upcoming Green Lantern film looks set for disappointment. Yup, instead of the purple-faced David Niven-a-like, Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern will be clashing rings with Hector Hammond, a successful scientist mutated by a strange meteorite into a mute telepathic psycho with a big ol’ massive head.
That’s not the only Green Lantern news we’ve been treated to recently – against stiff competition from the likes of Jennifer Garner and Eva Green, Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively has been cast as Reynold’s love interest, Carol Ferris. Filming is set to begin in March in Louisiana, and is currently slated for a summer 2011 release.
Still, we might not need to weep into our power rings over the potential loss of Sinestro. The Green Lantern film has been mooted as early as 2007, and early drafts of the script included not only Sinestro but Lantern stalwart Abin Sur and even the man of steel himself, Clark Kent, though whether they’ll all make it to the final cut is anyone’s guess.
Not news. In the comics Sinestro was a Green Lantern who turned his planet into a fascist dictatorship. If he appears in the first movie, it would be as a Green Lantern compatriot.
Exactly. Plus they will need somewhere for the franchise to go so I wouldn’t be surprised if Sinestro going rogue was covered in the second film and then the Sinestro Corps war was the subject of the third.
I’m hoping they look at Hal Jordan getting possessed by Parralax and decimating the GLC – that would be EPIC! But I’m guessing a little dark for this kids…
And films have been slavishly following the comics since when, exactly? I don’t remember Sam Raimi’s take on the Secret Wars before we saw Venom in Spider-Man 3.
