Ray Liotta joins The Muppets 2
The news from Tinseltown is that Ray Liotta, an actor it seems we all have been expecting great things from since Goodfellas, is to have another shot at it with an unspecified role in the upcoming Muppets sequel. He joins a cast gunning for glory (and including Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Ty Burrell) in The Muppets 2, due for release in the US on 21st March 2014. No UK release date as been announced as yet.
The previous film, The Muppets, staring Jason Segal and Amy Adams, was well received by the critics and grossed a handsome $158 million worldwide on a mere $45 million dollar budget, a return of more than 300% which would please any respectable dealer in family entertainment. Director James Robin and writer Nick Stoller are returning for the sequel, unsurprisingly.
This is not Ray Liotta’s first Muppet outing. He previously appeared in 1999’s Muppets From Space, a film not welcomed as warmly as its successor, failing to recoup its investment and no doubt costing it’s cast some reservations at the best Hollywood eateries. This has been a good year for Liotta though, following on from last year’s Killing Them Softly and having secured a part in Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Perhaps now is the time Ray will get some of the recognition he deserves.
