Toy Story 3 rockets to the top of the UK box office
Pixar’s Toy Story 3 has gone to infinity and beyond in the last 7 days, making a record debut of £21.19 million.
The enormous success of the second sequel has put it just behind Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as the second-biggest UK box office debut in history.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the return of Woody and friends has made Pixar’s latest blockbuster their highest grossing film ever, above previous top-spot holder The Incredibles.
£16 million of Toy Story 3’s takings have been generated by showings at 3D screens and £404,000 was made at 11 IMAX cinemas. The film has been on show at 562 sites nationwide.
The exact figure by which Toy Story 3 has trumped its competition is not entirely cut and dry, due to the sum of last week’s previews. But, whichever way you look at it, it’s a box office smasher and a deserving one too.
Considering we haven’t seen the toys since the last millennium, it appears that we all love them more than ever. This is one of the few 3D films we are excited by.
