Can’t wait to see Meryl Streep’s invariably brilliant star turn as Maggie Thatcher in The Iron Lady? You don’t need to! We have four pairs of tickets to an exclusive screening at Manchester Town Hall taking place on Thursday 15th December, and goodness knows we’re not using them…
In honour of the news that Jessica Chastain (a dirty American) may be taking the lead role in a biopic of Princess Diana, BFF have compiled a list of the Top 10 iconic British roles which have been snatched away by actors of other nationalities. This is one for all you xenophobes out there.
The Oscars 2012 are, ever so slowly, creeping up on us. And how better than to celebrate the upcoming 84th Academy Award than by pretending we’re psychic and predicting the big winners. We’re even doing this BEFORE THE NOMINATIONS LIST IS REVEALED, because we’re badasses like that. From Melancholia to The Artist, we’ve covered a lot of ground here; take a gander at our prophetic visions and see if you agree with our predictions for the 2012 Oscars…
There was a time, long ago, when it was generally considered that an opinion couldn’t ever be ‘wrong’. Unfortunately, that time is no more. With all those English graduates and bloggers telling you what to think, your opinion can and is wrong. It’s hard not to get lost in the din of whose opinion you should pretend is your own. Don’t worry though, cos BFF is here to save you from another awkward conversation by telling you what to think.
Eat up your learning kids, it’s ever so good for you and you’ll get a biscuit after. This week we’re talking a little about writer, director and producer Nancy Meyers – once the most successful female director of all time and cheesecake entrepreneur. Confused? READ ON.
Julian ‘Rise of the Footsoldier‘ Gilbey has delivered the goods once more with this distinctly British thriller set in the trackless wastes of the Scottish Highlands. Graphic, uncompromising violence and spectacular cinematography are the hallmarks of A Lonely Place to Die, although the only marks you’re likely to worry about are the ones you’ll leave in the arms of your seat. Nail-biting.
There’s no denying that the ‘size zero’ culture has taken over the entertainment industry, and there is now an increasingly huge amount of pressure on film and TV stars to conform to Hollywood’s idea of perfection. But that idea is changing all the time – skinny was in, then curvy was in and now they just can’t make up their minds.
After the major flop (in my eyes) that was Eat Pray Love, Julia Roberts is all set to star opposite the numerous award winner, Meryl Streep. Deserved? Hmm, I’ll have a think about it.
Because apparently the Spitting Image biopics weren’t quite enough… Meryl Street, first lady of Hollywood, is currently in talks to take on the Iron Lady herself – Margaret Thatcher. A new film is being planned centering around our first and only female Prime Minister and the trials and tribulations she faced in the lead up to the Falklands War.
